Delcy Rodriguez is Venezuela’s acting president after US special forces captured President Nicolás Maduro in a US-led military operation in Caracas.
She has served as vice president since 2018 and held senior roles overseeing finance and the oil sector under Maduro.
Venezuela’s Supreme Court and military recognised Rodriguez as interim leader, and she has since been sworn in to oversee the transition period.
Born in Caracas, she rose through the ruling socialist movement and is closely associated with the Chavista legacy of Hugo Chávez.
Initially, Rodriguez strongly condemned the US operation as illegal and vowed to defend Venezuela’s sovereignty.
She has since signalled a willingness to cooperate with Washington, calling for peace and dialogue rather than confrontation.
Her leadership comes at a moment of deep political uncertainty, with Venezuela’s future direction still unresolved.
