Russia-US talks in Saudi Arabia conclude without Ukraine and no set date for a Putin-Trump meeting

The new US administration is engaging with Russia on the Ukraine war, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio stating that only Trump can lead such talks. In Riyadh, he met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who described the discussions as “useful and constructive,” with plans for further meetings, including the possible resumption of diplomatic missions. Saudi Arabia hosted the nearly five-hour talks, reinforcing its mediator role. The US assured European allies of regular consultations and said Ukraine would be involved later. However, Ukraine’s president insists no deal will proceed without his country’s participation. The Kremlin says a Trump-Putin meeting will happen, though no date has been set.
