People’s Conference for Palestine highlights US complicity in Israel’s war on Gaza

The second annual People’s Conference for Palestine in Detroit has highlighted the growing public opposition to US military aid for Israel, despite continued support from key political figures.
Recent polls show a significant shift in American public opinion, with 60 percent now favouring an end to such aid.
However, even progressive politicians like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have stopped short of calling for a total arms embargo.
The conference also examined the role of US labour unions, with some grassroots organisers criticising the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) leadership for impeding pro-Palestinian activism.
Discussions centred on how to leverage changing public sentiment to influence Washington’s policy on Israel, with a particular focus on identifying and challenging those obstructing efforts to halt the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
