Thousands of people across Mexico have marched to protest rising crime, corruption and impunity, with the demonstrations led largely by Generation Z.
Protesters from various age groups joined, including older activists and supporters of a recently slain mayor.
In Mexico City, a small group of hooded demonstrators pulled down barriers outside the National Palace.
This triggered clashes with riot police, who responded with tear gas.
Officials reported around 100 injured police officers, with 40 taken to the hospital.
About 20 civilians were also injured during the unrest.
Authorities said 20 people were arrested and another 20 detained for administrative offences.
Al Jazeera’s Mariana Sanchez reports.
