British MPs urge UK to urgently take in Gaza’s wounded and sick children for treatment

A cross-party group of nearly 100 British MPs, including Labour’s Afzal Khan, are calling on the UK government to expedite the evacuation of Gaza’s critically ill children, citing Israel’s aid restrictions and Gaza’s collapsing healthcare system. Speaking to Al Jazeera, Khan condemned the conflict’s devastation—calling it “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing”—and stressed that over 14,000 children need immediate medical evacuation, yet only three have received UK assistance. The MPs’ letter urges asylum options for families post-treatment and practical measures like reopening Gaza’s biometric visa centre. Khan emphasised the need for an immediate ceasefire and UK recognition of Palestine at the UN, arguing Britain must scale up its response to save lives. While welcoming government engagement, he criticised the current pace as dangerously inadequate. The appeal reflects growing parliamentary pressure to address Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe.
